Ridge & Furrow Lavender

Our family run lavender enterprise was created in 2019 after lots of ideas about how to make the most out of the beautiful field at the end of the garden.

The lavender flowered strongly in its first year and we gathered it in to make potpourri for friends and family. Since then the lavender has matured and we have produced our first products for sale. These include essential oil, lavender water (hydrosol) and lavender bags with other products to come in 2023.

Please go to the Products page for more information and the online shop which will open in early March 2023.

The Journey…

With masses of research under our belt, we prepared and planted an acre of lavender. We had great fun designing the layout and choosing the varieties before setting to the hard work of removing two kilometres of turf strips, after which we hand planted more than 3,000 lavender ‘plugs’.

The design is centred around a set of concentric circles using Rosea and Folgate varieties before moving out into a diamond design with Grosso making up the bulk of the planting and then blending into Folgate at the corners to frame the diamond.

But with so many other beautiful varieties, we also planted a sample area of Imperial Gem, Munstead and Melissa Lilac too. Learn more about our story.

The idea

It all begins with an idea. Looking down over the pasture towards the house & village, the idea grew to create a field of beautiful and productive lavender.

Getting ready

With the decision made there was a lot to do to get ready for planting. Preparing the land, getting the right equipment and above all sourcing the plants.

Planting

When all was in place, a group of family friends gathered on a chilly spring day for morning coffee & croissants before planting the first 300 lavender plugs.

“Its been a voyage of discovery, but in just over a year we have gone from a pasture used for grazing cows to eagerly awaiting our first lavender harvest ”
